The AA Degree in African Diaspora Literature
The Associate of Arts in African Diaspora Literature provides students with an understanding of the complexity and diversity of African Diaspora literature and deepens students’ understanding of the cultural traditions, beliefs, world views and values representative of people throughout the diaspora. In addition to completing their general education courses, students are required to take
3 Credits; 3 Class Hours
This is a writing course emphasizing selected essays by writers across cultures and times. Focus is on every aspect of the essay, including style, diction, theme, organization, and analysis of the role and function of the essay in different time periods and cultures. Students use these essays as models to construct their own essays and to improve their own skills as writers of essays, and consequently as writers in general.
Pre-requisite: ENGL 150
and ENGL 212 World Literature: The Evolving Canon
. In addition to the required literature and composition courses above, students will take 12 credits in African Diaspora Literature. Students have six credits for open electives.
